 Shortly before the year 1000, a lively religious life emerged in Payerne with the support of the Burgundy royal family (located in France).

Thanks to Empress Adelheid, the daughter of Queen Bertha, the Payerne community is affiliated to the large Benedictine monastery in Cluny (France).
